About

I grew up on a lake set amid orange groves, a vanished place I return to often in dreams. Now I’m a Florida escapee with deepening roots in Oregon — Portland, specifically. Living elsewhere is unthinkable, unless my wife Suzame, our little boy Atticus, and I magically acquire a rustic country house set amid trees and water. I’d like to divide my time between the city and the woods. One can dream.

What is Cracked Window? A place for me to comment and reflect in a public way about my life and how I experience the world. Can I do so without engaging in insipid navel-gazing? Or without straining to impress myself or whoever stumbles here? Stay tuned.

I’m a freelance writer, editor, and researcher by trade. I had a long and successful media career, first on the print side of newspapers, then the web. Work creating and managing web content businesses led to a foray in high tech, where I helped guide development of a cutting-edge wireless web tablet.

Now, I’ve returned to my roots, focusing on words and the research that brings them to life.
